RIMBA - Software Engineer Intern
RIMBA
Software Engineer Intern
San Francisco Bay Area  ·  Internship  ·  Bay Area / Remote  ·  Students

Rimba builds a compliance and operational intelligence platform that helps industrial operators transform fragmented operational data into automated, audit-ready reporting. Current Rimba customers include Fortune 50 companies across natural gas, wastewater management, and landfills, leveraging Rimba to combine real-time operational insights with compliance workflows to reduce manual effort and lower the cost of staying compliant.

We're building modern software products that combine operational intelligence, compliance workflows, and AI-powered tooling into fast, scalable applications used by industrial operators in the real world.

We move quickly, ship often, and heavily leverage modern AI-assisted development workflows. We believe the best engineers today know how to combine strong software fundamentals with AI coding tools to build faster and better systems.

This role is focused on building production software across frontend, backend, APIs, and internal platform tooling.

The Role

You'll work across the stack to help design and build applications, APIs, workflows, and internal tools that power Rimba's platform.

You'll contribute directly to production systems and collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to ship features quickly and reliably. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy building end-to-end applications and are excited about modern AI-native software development workflows.

This isn't a "watch from the sidelines" internship. You'll write production code, own features, and work in a fast-moving engineering environment where iteration speed matters.

What You'll Do
Build and ship frontend and backend product features used by real customers.
Develop APIs, services, and internal tooling that support operational and compliance workflows.
Work with modern web frameworks and production databases.
Use AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, etc.) as part of your daily development workflow.
Collaborate with engineers and product teams to rapidly prototype and iterate on new ideas.
Help improve reliability, developer workflows, testing, and deployment infrastructure.
Contribute clean, maintainable, production-grade code across the stack.
What We're Looking For
Strong programming fundamentals and hands-on software development experience.
Experience building frontend and/or backend applications.
Comfortable working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
Experience using AI coding tools like Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, Windsurf, or similar tools is required.
Familiarity with APIs, web services, and modern software engineering workflows.
Ability to move quickly, learn independently, and work in ambiguous environments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Bonus Points
Experience with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Go, or Python.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure or deployment workflows.
Experience building side projects, startups, or shipping real applications.
Interest in AI-native developer workflows and automation.
Compensation & Perks
This is a paid position. Compensation to be decided per candidate.
Direct access to leadership and real ownership from day one.
Work on meaningful software problems at the intersection of operations, compliance, and AI.
