About Rimba
Rimba is building AI for industrial operations.
Industrial companies generate enormous amounts of data across sensors, historians, control systems, documents, spreadsheets, and enterprise software. Yet many critical workflows across operations, compliance, and reporting are still manual and fragmented.
Rimba connects to these systems and turns industrial data into AI-powered workflows that people can trust in production.
We're backed by Y Combinator and other leading investors and work with some of the largest companies across energy and industrial sectors.
We're still early, and we're looking for an exceptional engineer to join our core team and help build the next stage of Rimba.
The Role
We're looking for an exceptional hands-on engineer who can own some of the hardest technical problems at Rimba.
You'll work directly with the founders, engineers, and customers. You'll own major systems, make architectural decisions, ship production code, and help determine how we build as the company grows.
This is not an engineering management role. You will spend most of your time building.
At the same time, we're looking for someone who can grow into a technical leader at Rimba. You'll mentor engineers, lead major projects, raise the engineering bar, and help us hire great people.
You'll lead by building.
What You’ll Work On
The problems at Rimba span AI, data infrastructure, distributed systems, enterprise software, and industrial systems.
You might:
Build AI agents that reason across large volumes of operational and industrial data
Design reliable workflows combining LLM reasoning with deterministic computation and validation
Build ingestion infrastructure for historians, databases, APIs, files, and industrial systems
Design systems for high-frequency time-series data
Build products where every output needs to be reliable, auditable, and explainable
Make architectural decisions around reliability, security, observability, and scale
Work directly with customers to understand complex workflows and turn them into software
Debug problems across the stack when production behaves differently from what you expected
Review designs and code, mentor other engineers, and raise the technical bar across the team
There isn't always a clean boundary between product engineering, infrastructure, AI, and data engineering here. We expect you to be comfortable crossing those boundaries.
What we’re looking for
You probably have 5+ years of software engineering experience, but we care much more about what you've built and owned than the number of years on your resume.
We're looking for someone who has experience with several of the following:
Building and owning production systems end to end
Python and/or TypeScript
Backend systems and APIs
PostgreSQL and data-intensive applications
Distributed systems, data pipelines, or time-series systems
React, Next.js, or modern frontend development
AWS or similar cloud infrastructure
LLMs, agents, retrieval, tool use, or AI infrastructure
Making architectural decisions with incomplete information
Debugging complex systems, including systems you didn't originally build
Experience with industrial software, SCADA, historians, manufacturing, energy, or regulated industries is a plus, but not required.
We would rather hire an exceptional engineer who can learn the domain quickly than someone who simply checks every box.
You Might be a Great Fit If
You take ownership. You can take an ambiguous problem, figure out what needs to be built, and drive it all the way to production.
You ship. You care about engineering quality, but you also know that great engineering means getting useful software into users' hands.
You go deep. When something doesn't make sense, you keep pulling the thread until you understand what is actually happening.
You have strong technical judgment. You know when a problem needs a sophisticated system and when the right answer is boring, simple code.
You're coachable. You have strong opinions, but you don't need to be right. You seek out feedback, change your mind when the evidence changes, and continuously look for ways to get better.
You're comfortable with ambiguity. Some of our best problems start with a customer showing us a spreadsheet and explaining a workflow nobody on our team has seen before.
You make other engineers better. You give thoughtful feedback, communicate clearly, and care about the quality of the team, not just your own output.
You still want to build. As your scope grows, we expect you to remain close to the code and our hardest technical problems.
Why Rimba
Most software is built for people who already spend their days using software.
We're building for a very different world.
Our customers operate physical infrastructure. Their data can come from thousands of sensors, decades-old equipment, modern cloud systems, spreadsheets, PDFs, and institutional knowledge that has never been written down.
Making AI useful in this environment requires much more than putting an LLM behind a chat interface.
It requires building reliable systems at the intersection of AI, data infrastructure, industrial systems, and enterprise software.
And we're early enough that the decisions you make will meaningfully shape Rimba's product, architecture, and engineering culture.
How to Apply

In your email, tell us briefly:
What excites you about Rimba and this role
The hardest or most interesting thing you've built, what made it difficult, and what you personally owned
If there's something you've built that you can share, we'd love to see it. This could be a product, startup, open-source project, technical write-up, side project, or anything else you're proud of.
